A Petition (Optional) - A written statement in present tense about what you want to banish (e.g., "I am free from negativity" or "All obstacles are removed from my path"), Matches or lighter.
Ritual -
Cleanse your ritual space using sage or any purifying incense. You can also sprinkle salt around your altar to purify the area. Ensure that you are calm, focused, and ready to release what no longer serves you. Set Up Your Altar or Working Space, Place the black candle in the center of your altar or working space. Set the supporting candles around the black candle. These will help amplify the banishing energy and support your intention. Arrange them in a circle or a triangular pattern, depending on your preference.
Use a toothpick or another carving tool to inscribe your specific intention on the black candle. This can be something like "I banish fear and negativity" or "All obstacles are removed." Be clear and precise with your words. If you're using a petition, write it out in the present tense (e.g., "I am free from all that hinders me") and keep it handy. Using the banishing oil, anoint the black candle by rubbing the oil downwards (toward the base of the candle). This symbolizes the removal of negative energy or obstacles. You can dress the candle with prepared ground herbs, You may also anoint the supporting candles if desired. Light the supporting candles first, then light the black candle with the intention of burning away negativity, fear, obstacles, or any unwanted influence in your life.
As the candles burn, close your eyes and focus on your intention. Visualize the negative energies or obstacles you are banishing. See them being consumed by the black flame, turning to smoke or ash and dissipating into the air. If you're using a petition, hold it between your palms during this visualization. When you’re done, burn the petition using the black candle flame and let it turn to ash.
Throughout the ritual, maintain confidence in your ability to clear away negativity. Trust the process and visualize the space around you becoming lighter, cleaner, and more harmonious.
Once you feel that your ritual is complete and the candles have burned sufficiently, thank the universe or any spirits you work with for their assistance. Close the ritual by blowing out the candles, knowing that your intention has been sent out into the universe.
Once the candle has burned out completely, you can either:
Bury the candle remnants (wax and any burnt materials) in the earth, symbolizing the banishment of the energy.
Dispose of the ashes near a body of water (river, ocean, or lake) to release the energy into the flow of the natural world.
Place the remains in a fire-safe container and leave them to cool. Dispose of them later when you feel the energy has been fully released.
If you wrote a petition and burned it, you can scatter the ashes in the wind, release them near running water, or bury them in the earth.
If you used herbs during the ritual, these can be burned, buried, or scattered in your garden or near a body of water. This symbolizes the dispersal of negative energy and the return of the herbs’ cleansing powers to nature.
